Hi! Well the bars do not mean anything in this problem. I will put it into a word problem. Bob borrowed 2 dollars from Katy. Then he gave her 8 dollars. How much money did she have? The answet would be 6. Hope this helped! ☺
Honestly I'm not sure if that other person did it right don't take my word but the bars mean something the -2 would turn into a +2 the bars therefore just change the number to a positive but if a positive like the 8 is in bars it stays a positive so it is 2+8
