It was kept in the Soviet Union's embassy in Tehran, Iran. It was the first of the World War II gatherings of the Big Three Allied generals. It almost supported the Cairo Conference which had taken place on 26 November 1943 and preceded the 1945 Yalta and Potsdam conventions. Although the three directors reached with differing goals, the central result of the Tehran Conference was the Western Allies' promise to open a second front opposite Nazi Germany.
