i don't know the first part of the Q but i know why photograph here Photography was created because when Isaac Newton realized their are different colours in white, different scientists began to experiment with white and its colours leading to the creation of photography.

It is a picture of a skull of a deceased person. They would sculpt plaster features back onto the skull. This was a way of reconnecting with people how were dead. This gave a connection with their spiritual beliefs in the afterlife.
