In addition, lymphatic drainage has a (more limited) role in transporting fluids, which contain dissolved particles 'solutes' from tissues.*Many invertebrates e.g. molluscs and arthropods, have open circulatory systems in which the circulatory fluid is hemolymph rather than blood.

Plants have 2 types of transport tissue:
Xylem moves water and solutes from the roots to the leaves.
Phloem moves food substances from leaves to the rest of the plant (both up and down the plant)
