Ozone layer is getting thinner which results in mutations that lead to cancer.
What is ozone layer?
The ozone layer sits in the stratosphere between 15 km and 30 km above the earth, and shields us and other living things from the sun's harmful ultraviolet radiation.
The ozone layer has three oxygen atoms, and it is the result of the action of Ultra Violet (UV) radiation on oxygen molecules, composed of two oxygen atoms.
Thinning of ozone layer is known as ozone depletion.
Increasing levels of ultraviolet radiation caused by ozone depletion activate normally dormant elements which are capable of causing new mutations
Ultraviolet light is harmful for living organisms as it breaks chemical bonds in DNA and protein, thus causes mutation.
