Monocytes are the white blood cells that are found in almost all tissue in the human body. Monocytes move into tissues and engulf and digest cells and foreign substances in a process known as phagocytosis. After monocytes have ingested cells, hydrolytic enzymes that destroy pathogens is being secreted by lysosomes within the monocytes.
