I think the most ethical action would be to remove the hazard from the field. He might be tempted to act unethically to help his team win. What you would do in the circumstance is your opinion so I can't really help you there.

The most ethical action is to notify a referee or coach so they can take action and remove the hazard. Because it is a competition and he really wants to win, the player might be tempted to not tell anyone and let the opposing team be at a disadvantage.
