In a four-pulley system, 1200N load is raised by applying 400N effort. Calculate M.A, V.R and efficiency of pulley system.​

The Mechanical Advantage (M.A) of the pulley can be calculated using the formula below.

Formula:

  • M.A = Load(L)/Effort(E)............. Equation 1

From the question,

Given:

  • L = 1200 N
  • E = 400 N

Substitute into equation 1

  • M.A = 1200/400
  • M.A = 3.

For The V.R,

The number of pulley systems is equal to the Velocity ratio of the pulley.

Therefore,

V.R = 4

Efficiency:

Formula:

  • E(%) = (M.A/V.R)100.............. Equation 2

Substitute the values into equation 2

  • E(%) = (3/4)100
  • E(%) = 75 %
