In Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, the character of Miss Havisham is pivotal. She portrays herself as a depressed, angry, and miserable lady in the work. She has a lonely and depressing existence. Pip is not persuaded that Miss Havisham is his benefactor by Miss Havisham's actions. Pip and Estella are in love, but Estella intends to destroy his heart by making him fall in love with her.
