The New Deal

President Roosevelt enacted a series of policies, regulations , financial reforms, public works which was aimed at alleviating the suffering of American during the Great depression. This reforms were termed The New Deal.

     At that time, African Americans were overwhelmingly affected by unemployment. They hardly got jobs and were easily fired.

Although the New Deal was not specifically targeted at African Americans, they nevertheless benefited from the program just like the rest of other Americans

   Roosevelt's New Deal increased his popularity among African Americans although he subtly avoided the promotion of civil rights for fear of loosing his southern white supporters.

The Critics of the First New Deal

     Roosevelt's First New deal was viewed as Radical and transformational by people who thought the New deal gave government so much power. Some of the critics of the new deal are

These people felt that Roosevelt was a socialist or even a communist because of the policies inherent in the New deal.
