To kill a mocking bird
1. What does Conley say about the differences between how black and white
people describe themselves? Why do you think he believes that?
2. Do you agree? why or why not?
3. Make a list of the adjectives that describe you. Which did you think of first?
Which took longer to think of? Why were you able to think of some adjectives
more easily than others?
4. What does Conley mean when he says that "race and class are nothing
more than a set of stories we tell ourselves to get through the world"? Do you agree?

Respuesta :

1. According to Dalton Conley, the differences between how black and white people describe themselves are as follows:

a. Black people overemphasize their skin color, unlike white people.

b. Blacks worship wealth and class, unlike whites.

c. Black people, unlike whites, are self-limiting in their thinking.

The reason Conley believes the differences between blacks and whites exist comes from his firsthand experiences living among blacks.

2. I will agree with Conley because blacks worship whites. Perhaps, they think that the whites are angels from heaven because of their color.

Personal Descriptive Adjectives:

3. Many adjectives can describe a person. The following are prominent: Persistent, Genuine, Enthusiastic, Disciplined, Straightforward, Modest, and Tenacious.

On the other hand, the following adjectives took longer to think of: Generous, Independent, Resourceful, Courageous, Practical, Energetic, Motivated, Adaptable, and Truthful.

Some adjectives are easy to think of more than others because some human qualities are visible while others remain concealed.

Racial and Class Distinctions

4. When Dalton Conley says that “race and class are nothing more than a set of stories we tell ourselves to get through the world,” he means that people should not over-emphasize racial and class distinctions because they are not the hallmarks of humanity.

Also, I agree with him because race and class are just additions. They are not the basis of life.

Thus, we can agree with Dalton Conley's expressed opinions in "Honky" noting that "To Kill a Mocking Bird" was written by Harper Lee.
