Since they are 45-45-90 triangles, the two legs are equal.
Therefore x is [tex]\sqrt{10}[/tex]
Now, the hypotenuse, y, is the same as any leg times [tex]\sqrt{2}[/tex]
So we do [tex]\sqrt{10}[/tex] * [tex]\sqrt{2}[/tex] which is [tex]\sqrt{20}[/tex].
Now we need to simplify that.
[tex]\sqrt{20}[/tex] is the same as [tex]\sqrt{4 * 5}[/tex] which is [tex]\sqrt{2*2*5}[/tex] which is [tex]2\sqrt{5}[/tex]
