Zara has a rectangular garden. The length of her garden is 12 feet and the width is 7 feet. She extends the width
of her garden by w feet to create a larger garden with a total perimeter of 46, feet. Write an equation that can be

How to find width of the garden

  • Length of the garden = 12 feet
  • Width of the garden = 7 feet

  • Width extension =( 7 + w) feet

  • Perimeter = 46 feet

Perimeter = 2(length+ width)

46 = 2{12 + (7 + w)}

46 = 2(12 + 7 + w)

46 = 2(19 + w)

46 = 38 + 2w

46 - 38 = 2w

8 = 2w

w = 8/2

w = 4 feet
