Metellus Cimber presents a petition to Caesar: he wishes to have his banished brother forgiven. ... The other conspirators try to insist, but Caesar denies them all. Casca stabs him first, and the other conspirators follow, last of all Brutus. Caesar dies, shocked. Metellus Cumber's petition to Caesar is for his brother to return from exile. Caesar responds by stopping Metellus from begging him, insulting him, and deny his request. He does this because he believes that exiling Publius was a just punishment, and he does not to look foolish by going back on a punishment.
