If a plant loses water faster than it can be replaced by the roots its stomata will close
Function of Stomata
When a plant is losing water at a high rate than can be replaced by the roots of the plant, the stomata will close up to reduce the loss of water to the environment because excessive loss of water causes the plant cells to be become flaccid.
Excessive loss of water can be caused by severe weather conditions like drought and prolonged summer as well.
