The American Constitution makes it such that a person can serve as president for a maximum of 10 years.
A president can serve for 10 years if they took over from a serving president and served for no more than 2 years of the term of the president they took over from.
They can then run for two more elections which gives them eight years each thereby bringing it to 10 years. This is included in the 22nd Amendment.
