In order to use only the birth and death rates to calculate the rate of population growth or decrease of a country, the immigration and the emigration rates must either be insignificant or approximately equal.

Population growth rate

The growth rate of a population is determined by the following equation:

Growth rate = (Birth rate - death rate) + (Immigration - Emigration)
