5. Your school has not been performing well of late in external examination. Write a letter to your headmaster, giving at least three reasons for this poor performance, and suggesting remedies

Respuesta :

The letter you are required to write is a formal letter and should have a formal tone. The content would have the organizational structure called Cause and Effect structure.

How do you structure a formal letter?

  • The introduction is for stating the problem.
  • The body should contain at lest three paragraphs:
  • One for explaining the cause of the problem; and
  1. Two for suggesting remedies.
  2. The last paragraph of the letter is the conclusion.

Given that it is a formal letter, the salutation should be formal. Eg.

Dear Sir,

My Thoughts on the Poor Performance during External Examinations

I have noticed just like other students that we have been performing poorly at external examinations. Here are the reasons why and suggested remedies.

1) Many of the students are more focused on sports as a ticket to making it big, thus, paying less attention on their academics.

2) It seems that the schools curriculum is dated when compared to the one in use "globally".

3) Our library is ill-equipped with internet and computers that can help us study online and do research.

In view of the above, it is my recommendation that:

  • That the performance assessment grades be balanced between sports and academics such that people will have more incentive to study;
  • That the school considers an upgrade of the curriculum; and
  • The Parent-Teachers Association consider a project that involves an upgrade of our library and research facilities.

I would be happy to discuss this further with you in person.

Best regards.
