What are the difference and similarities between Freud theory and Erikson theory?

The basic difference between both the theory is that, Freud in his theory, stated that the personality of a human is shaped only in childhood stage, while Erikson proposed that personality development takes place all through the lifespan.

Erikson's theory followed many of Freud's ideas. Because of this, the two theories have similarities and both the theorists recognize the importance of the unconscious on development.

Freud's psychosexual theory is basically based on the importance of basic needs and biological forces, while Erikson's psychosocial theory is based upon social and environmental factors.
