Read this quote and think about its primary question — why bother studying the past?
People live in the present. They plan for and worry about the future. History, however, is the study of the past. Given all the demands that press in from living in the present and anticipating what is yet to come, why bother with what has been?

Answer: We study the past so we don't repeat it in the future. It also helps us understand other cultures and why some are antagonistic with each other whilst others live in harmony. It helps you understand why certain cultures do certain traditions.
