There was less food and the natural ecology of the place where they lived was ruined because the numbers of bisons dwindled. This as a consequence led to tougher times during which the native Americans had to endure great hardships.
The researchers claim that the rapid destruction of the bison created an equally dramatic decline in the heights of the Native Americans who depended on them -- and a worse per capita income that persists today.
