The Paris Peace Conference was celebrated in 1919 as a meeting of the leaders of the victoriousAallied powers in order to decide the peace terms that would be imposed on the defeated Central Powers, in order to oficially end WWI.
Let's match each leader with his goals
- President Woodrow Wilson of the United States: lasting peace and justice. He actually brought to the conference the Fourteen Points, as an statement which gathered principles for peace that could set better conditions for both victorious powers and defeated countries. He sought to bring US political principles (free trade, open agreements, democracy and self-determination) to European policymakers.
- Prime Minister Orlando of Italy : territories promised earlier to his country. Those territorial promises were determinant in the decision of Italy of participating in WWI in the side of the Allied powers.
- Prime Minister David Lloyd George of Britain: punishment for Germany. The main intention of te UK in this conference was to adopt resolutions that could weaken Germany as much as possible (economically, militarily) for preventing subsequent attacks and to develop a supranational entity: the League of Nations.
- Prime Minister Clemenceau of France : money to rebuild his country. Although France was specially interesed on weakening Germany as the UK, the warfare had destroyed its territories and infraestructures so they needed more urgently money for reconstruction.
