A key disadvantage that nuclear power generation poses is the production of radioactive waste, which is highly hazardous to most forms of life, therefore it must be handled and stored appropriately to reduce the risk of contaminating the environment and the public. This is generally an expensive and very, very lengthy process as it requires the management of waste until the radioactivity decays enough to the point where it's no longer a threat.
Many people are proponents of using nuclear power instead of burning coal
to generate electricity. However, the environmental disadvantage of this is
that it poses a risk of exposure to radioactive elements which causes
mutation and cancer in plants and animals.
Nuclear power is generated through the reaction of various radioactive
elements to generate a large amount of heat and it produces no carbon
emission into the atmosphere .
The main issue however is that it may causes an alteration in the DNA of organisms with no known cure.
