As a person overeats, excess energy may be stored in adipose tissue. The increase in the number of adipocytes, or fat cells, is called hyperplasia.
Hyperplasia can be defined as the enlargement of a particular organ or a tissue which is cause due to increase in the reproduction rate of the cells it is composed of. Hyperplasia may lead to a formation of tumor and aid in the development of cancer. It can sometimes be a sign of abnormal changes.
Adipocytes are the fat cells and their main function is to store the excess amount of energy in the form of fatty molecules like triglycerides. Adipose tissues store the body fat. When we overeat, the excess energy gets stored in the adipose tissue and the fat cells increase in number via hyperplasia.
