Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. Matter can exist in three forms or phases: solids, liquids, or gases. A tiny particle of a chemical element is called an atom while Molecules refer to the group of atoms. Compounds can be broken down into elements by chemical reactions, but elements cannot be separated into simpler substances by chemical means.
Atoms are made up of three types of tiny particles. Protons (or positively charged particles) and neutrons (or particles that contain no charge) are found in the nucleus of an atom. Electrons (or negatively charged particles) are found outside the nucleus. A molecule can be defined as the combinations of two or more atoms which are held together by chemical bonds. A molecule is the smallest portion of a substance which showcases all the properties of the substance. If the molecule contains atoms of different types bonded together, we call it a compound. Element any substance that cannot be decomposed into simpler substances by ordinary chemical processes.
