Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, from 1861 to 1865. He had previously served as Congressman for the State of Illinois in the House of Representatives. Among his accomplishments were the preservation of the Union and the abolishment of slavery.

Lincoln's background was relatively humble. He grew up in a poor family and lack the economic means to pursue further education. Regardless of this condition, he was able to self-educate himself and become a lawyer.
