It made people handling the slaves harsher. Since there was basically no concern many of them lived in and suffered in inhuman conditions. Eg: Whipped, overworked, etc.

The absence of humanitarian concerns influenced the treatment of slaves during the slave trade. If there were any humanitarian concerns the slave trade would not have been possible at all since those people were free until other people came into their country, imprisoned them and sent them to another country to become slaves. To make slavery possible, it was needed to make slaves be considered things, animals not people. So all the lack of humanitarian concerns would be justified since they were not humans at all. This view persisted for a long time since slaves were considered objects of property and not humans and did not deserve to be treated that way.
