The Progressive party was known to be a third political party in the United States and this party was formed by a former president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. People also used to call Progressive party as ‘Bull Moose Party' because once Theodore Roosevelt told reporters that he was as fit as a Bull Moose. This party was formed by him after he lost nomination for the post of President from Republican Party to a conservative rival William Howard Taft. Progressive party was known for taking advanced positions with regards to reforms and many national reformers were attracted by the ideology of this party. Theodore Roosevelt nominated himself as a presidential candidate from this party but he lost badly in elections of 1912, The same year this party was formed and from there on, Progressive party went into decline and by 1920 it completely vanished from political happenings of the country. Before forming this party, Theodore Roosevelt had served as President of the United States for two consecutive terms between 1901 to 1909. But he wanted to serve the third term also and that was permissible during that period because the 22nd amendment was not introduced during that time which bars President from serving more than 2 terms.
