Foxes and wolves can kill rabbits for food, and rabbits can eat poisonous plants on accident.
The rabbit population in the forest ecosystem is decreased with the increase in the population of wolves and foxes, or with a decrease in the population of plants.
What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is an interconnection between the living and non-living things in a specified area for living. The forest ecosystem represents the living of forest animals in the area for food.
The rabbits in the forest ecosystem are primary consumers that feds on plants for food. Rabbits are consumed by wolves and foxes, as they are the secondary consumers.
The possible reasons that result in the decline of the rabbit population are:
- Increase in the population of secondary consumers, i.e. wolves and foxes.
- A decrease in the producer's population i.e. plants results in the unavailability of feed for rabbits and killing them.
