the movement of particles in gases is very random and disorderly because of the negligible forces between the gas particles. In liquids the forces holding the particles together are more closely packed therefore their movement is less disorderly,they can slide over one another. In solids the particles are tightly held together and so their movement is much less random,they can only vibrate at their lattice points.
In a solid the particles are barely moving at all, but they vibrate in place
