Here is the timeline of France during the Great Depression:
• France in the late 1920s seemed to have restored prosperity, stability, and pre-war confidence. For the time being, it even looked immune to the economic crisis that spread throughout Europe starting in 1929. However, in 1931, France, in turn, gave in to the influences of the Great Depression, and the effect was no less severe than elsewhere.
• Chamber to the Radicals and Socialists were no longer controlled by right-wing parties in 1932. Edouard Herriot, The Radical leader, got back to the premiership, with Socialist support but did not participate. Over the next two years, Herriot and a group of successors sought solutions to the deepening crisis.
• In 1934, the unstable coalition came under the rule of the Stavisky scandal. Anti-parliamentary groups from the far-right took the opportunity to protest against the regime; on February 6, a large-scale demonstration near the Chamber of Deputies deteriorated into a battle with armed police, in which 1,500 others injured and15 rioters were killed.
• In April 1938, France once again returned to the usual pattern of unstable central coalitions, with Socialists in opposition. In 1938-1940, The Radical Daladier aided as premier; Paul Reynaud, his finance minister, deferred most of the Popular Front's reforms and wanted economic recovery through more orthodox policies that favored business.
