Because if you are not having fun with it anymore then you stop doing it.Your weekly exercise running mileage should drop the week before the event. Your training now mostly focuses on "saving up" rest so that your legs are prepared for the marathon.

To keep your legs fresh throughout the week, fit in two to three quick runs with a few quick pick-ups—short, snappy portions that get your legs working faster and get you ready for the faster tempo of the race. Take a day off to completely rest two days before the marathon. Do a quick exercise(20-minute) run with up to five 45-second pick-ups the day before the race to tone your legs.
