What is correlation?

Correlation can be defined as any statistical relationship, whether causal or not, between two random variables or bivariate data. The type of correlation that we have include;

  • Positive correlation
  • negative correlation
  • zero correlation

A calculated number greater than 1.0 or less than -1.0 means that there was an error in the correlation measurement while a correlation that is between 0.6 and 0.9 are classified as a strong relationship.

Hence we can conclude that analysis of data that reveals a correlation coefficient of 0.77 shows  a strong relationship between variables.
