Light and matter are the two main ingredients in the universe that interact with each other.
Matter in universe is the fundamental building block of everything: life on Earth, the planet we survive on, the stars, and galaxies. It's commonly referred as such thing covers that has mass and occupies a volume of space.
Matter has mass and covers volume. Heat, light, and other forms of electromagnetic energy do not have quantifiable mass and can't be accommodate in a volume.
Light exists in mini packets called photons. Photons have no rest mass and they do not cover any volume.

Light has properties of both a particle and an electromagnetic wave but not all the effects of either.
