He also originated the system of longitude and latitude and was the first person to calculate the circumference of the Earth with incredible reliability. He was the first or earliest one who proved that Earth was round.
Eratosthenes set on the earth's circumference to be 40,250 to 45,900 kilometers (25,000 to 28,500 miles) by comparing the Sun's parallel setting at two different locations on the earth's surface.
