In the 1960s and 1970s minority groups responded to psychology's lack of interest in their concerns by forming their own special-interest organizations.

" In psychology, the idea of social stress suggested that situation in the social surroundings, not only personal reasons, are origin of stress that may lead to physiological and psychological effects. It might thus be believed to have a impact in the lives of  people belonging to minority social groups including race/ethnicity, gender, or sexuality, religion, etc. Due to these inequality and discrimination being ignored , these minority groups formed their own special interest organizations, solely for their concerns , in late 1960s and early 1970s".
