Isolated submarine volcanic mountains with a vertical relief of greater than 1000 meters are called- Seamounts

Underwater mountains known as seamounts rise hundreds or thousands of feet above the ocean's surface. Typically, these are extinct volcanoes that produced lava heaps when they were active, which occasionally caused the ocean's surface to break.

Seamounts are frequently discovered close to the tectonic plate borders and mid-plate regions close to hotspots. As plates separate along mid-ocean ridges, magma rises to fill the spaces. Oceanic crust is forced toward the Earth's hot center around subduction zones where it melts and forms magma that rises buoyantly to the surface and explodes to produce volcanoes and seamounts.
