What is tonsillitis?
Tonsils are two masses of tissue at the back of your throat that become infected when you have tonsillitis.
Your tonsils serve as filters, capturing microorganisms that may otherwise get into your airways and infect you. They produce antibodies to fend off infections as well. But occasionally bacteria or viruses overpower them. They may become inflamed and swollen as a result.
Tonsillitis is frequent, particularly in kids. It may occur infrequently or keep returning repeatedly in a short time.
The symptoms of tonsillitis in children can include a fever of 101 degrees Fahrenheit (38.4 degrees Celsius) or higher, a sore throat, dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), hypertrophied tonsils, and erythema of the pharynx. A child with spasmodic laryngitis has a cough that sounds like a bark, is hoarse, and is unable to produce noises that can be heard when speaking.
