Our genetic tendencies shape the environments we are exposed to during life. "nature shapes nurture" via both evocative and active forces.

Each of us contributes to the environment and circumstances in which we live, and genes play a role in some of the decisions we make in life. Our environment is partly shaped by our genes, and our personalities may then be influenced by that environment.

There are three different types of gene-environment correlations: active (a person's preference for their environment will reflect their genetic makeup), evocative (a person's behavior causes their environment to respond, such as between a husband and wife), and passive (a person's environment as a child is influenced by their parent's genetic makeup, which influences their choices in life).
