Fridtjof Nansen(1861-1930) was a Norwegian oceanographer and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. In 1922, became first High commissioner for Refugees appointed by League of Nations.
He discovered that the Arctic ocean was 4000 meters deep and he was first to infer this to the world.
In his expedition to North Pole, he failed to reach it but still famous for his expedition work. He also played an important role in the repatriation of the Prisoners of War.
In order to explore Arctic, his ship, Fram was freezed. He believed that it could track polar ocean's mystery of currents that was occurring on the North Pole. After reaching Arctic, through his ship, he harness the natural east-west current of Arctic Ocean.
