The relationship between all three arms of public service is that they sometimes work together under an umbrella named called Department of Public Safety (DPS). In this department, some officers are cross trained to provide services that would otherwise be a specialized unction under each of the above mentioned portfolios.

- Emergency Communications: Manages the public interface emergency communications telephone system by providing 9-1-1 and Enhanced 911 emergency telephone numbers.
- Office of Emergency Management (OEM): Plans and operates the emergency response center during disasters, disasters, special events and emergencies.
- Inspections and enforcement of regulations: generally building safety, including construction, electrical engineering, etc. and vehicle inspections.
- Animal Control: This category may also include game wardens, game wardens, and dog catchers, to mention a few.
