C. John Locke
John Locke wrote about the idea of natural rights which included the right to life, liberty, and property.
The writing Two Treatises of Government outlined Locke's philosophy on the role of government. Locke believed that all people were given natural rights by God. These rights of life, liberty, and property need to be protected by the government. Governments that did not protect the natural rights of their citizens could be overthrown or changed to better suit the citizens.
