The Gordon clan, also known as the Gordon family, is a Scottish clan. The head of the clan was the powerful Earl of Huntly, now the Marquess of Huntly. During the Scottish War of Independence in the 13th century, the Gordon family supported William Wallace in the War of Independence.

In the 15th century, the head of the clan passed to an heir who married into the Seton family, and her male descendants took the surname Gordon and continued as head of the clan. The Gordons also helped put down the Earl of Douglas Rebellion in the 15th century. As Catholics in the 16th century, the Gordons fought their Protestant neighbors, Clan Forbes, and defeated the Protestant Earl of Argyll at the Battle of Glenlivet.

The first Gordon on record is said to have been Richard of Gordon, a former Swinton and the grandson of a famous knight who reigned under Malcolm III. A King of Scotland killed a gigantic beast on Mels. This Richard was Baron Gordon of Mels. Richard Eng His Gordon clan has nine variations of his tartans, from Modern and Ancient to Dress and Weathered, including beautiful green, blue, and even red tartans, and this clan is truly spoiled for choice. Gordon probably died around 1200.
