Imagine that you are a British colonist in 1775 as the colonies are on the verge of revolution The Battle of
Lexington and Concord has been fought. American cities have been fired on by the British Fleet and Boston is
under siege. The Continental Congress is debating declaring independence. These events follow a long stream
of abuses from the British Royal Government- unfair taxes, limits on settlement, abolishing colonial
government, and the occupation of British soldiers. Despite the many grievances against the American
colonists many are unsure if it is wise to rebel. Write a letter or an article in which you argue why or why
shouldn't the Americans launch a revolution establishing the colonies as a new country.
In your letter include:
1.Create an effective argument based on historical facts.
2. Describe three historical events that led to the revolution from your perspective
3. Include some references to Enlightenment political ideas such as, the social contract, natural rights, popular
sovereignty, freedom of expression, limited government, etc.
4.Consider pros and cons of revolution.
