Many workers have unusual jobs. Marty Fay has an unusual
job. For the city of New York. He works as a sort of detective.
Marty lowers himself on a ladder. Below the busy city streets. He
will search for leaky pipes. Leaks waste millions of gallons. Of
precious water from sometimes half-empty reservoirs. Marty is a
talented leak detector. Placing an electronic listening device on a
water valve inside a manhole. The instrument picks up vibrations.
From either a slow or a fast leak in a water pipe. Marty pinpoints
the exact location of the leak. Then other workers for the city. Come
and cut through the city pavement at that spot. When they have
Marty's help. The workers can easily find the leak and then mend
the pipe.
