Look for words that point to either happy, or sad negative or positive emotions. These will point to the tone of a reading.
There can be more than 1 tone to a reading.
Example happy beginning, sad ending
The Tone of a text is the authors attitude.
To find the tone of the text you close read and annotate the text to find things like imagery, or foreshadowing,
But the most imprtant things to look for is diction (word choice) and syntax (the sentence's arrangement of words)

When you find those you can look for the tone of the text
It could be Positive, Negative or Nuetral, but if you want more narrowed down tone, you look underneath Positive to find words like happy, excited, or sunny (weather is never just weather keep that in mind)
Some Negative words would be; Darkness, tense, evil

Annotate the text to find those tone words and that will help you to find the tone of the entire text
