When people who speak a given language migrate to a different location and become isolated from other members of their group isolation usually results in the differentiation of one language into two.

A literary tradition will emerge in one of the groups, perhaps in both (written language). The two groups will eventually speak distinct, incomprehensible languages as a result of isolation, which will cause them to speak different dialects. Through assimilation with nearby cultural groups, one or both groups will lose their native tongue.
