The integration of Little Rock Central High School On September 3, 1957, Governor Orval Faubus called up the Arkansas National Guard in an effort to stop nine African American students from enrolling in the high school, which brought Rock, Arkansas to the attention of the nation. When Governor Faubus dispatched the Arkansas National Guard in 1957 to stop the integration of Little Rock's Central High School, he attracted widespread attention, but he was ultimately forced to withdraw the Guard.
