Prejudice is an evaluation or emotion toward people merely based on their group membership.

Although the word has a traditional connotation which is negative yet prejudice at times is used in a affirmative or positive manner.

The term "prejudice" can also be used to describe irrational attitudes that are especially resistant to logical influence, as well as baseless or categorical ideas.

According to Auestad (2015), prejudice is defined by "symbolic transfer"—the assignment of a meaning with a high value to a socially constructed category, followed by individuals who are assumed to fall into that group—resistance to change, and over generalisation.
