The 1968 Democratic National Convention met at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago, Illinois, United States.
President Lyndon Johnson had announced he would not want to be reelected, and the convention had to to select a new presidential nominee. The main agenda of the convention was the American military involvement in the Vietnam War and voting reform. They wanted to expand the age to vote from 21 to 18 years since the ideal age for voting was 21.
The convention was held when there were a lot of riots, political instability, and civil unrest. Racial tensions rose to high levels after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in April of that year which marked the end of the civil rights movement. Then came Kennedy's assassination which hindered the convention, paving the way for Humphrey.
